coppercity
Try talking to Kevin Gruys up at Aircraft and Marine insurance. He shops around for me and finds the best deal. My LS is a rental so I have to pay way more for student use.

DocRon
AVEMCO with $100K hull and $1Mil liability. Last year was $2000 due to near zero hours in the plane. This year was $1500 now that I'd acquired 155 in the aircraft.
Adam
Hey Folks... There may be a "deal" to be had through EAA's Preferred Partner - Falcon Insurance (Kerrville, TX 1-830-257-1000)... "QBE is Australia’s largest insurance group. They have recently entered into the aviation market in the USA and thus are aggressively working toward growing their book which reflects in competitive rates" (Quote from Harvest Jones who is my contact). They have an “A” AM’s Best rating and “A+” S&P rating. ( http://www.group.qbe.../Insurance.html ) Case in point, I'm 47, a low time sport pilot (100 hours, all in an LSA, 40+ in CTSW), flying a brand new CTLS with Dual Dynon Skyview. I'm using a Hull Value of $140,000.00 (plane cost 152,000 but you get a depreciation hit as soon as you take delivery so I went with a slightly lower number), I have a $1,000,000.00/100,000 liability limit, a $0/0 Deductible (all standard stuff) and my rate is $1950.00. Seems like a pretty darn good deal to me for a stone cold rookie with a new plane! This includes the EAA/AOPA Member Discount. Other quotes I received from multiple agencies/carriers were about 20% higher.
paul m
Bumping this thread to see if there have been any changes since last year. I'm waiting on delivery of a new Jubilee CTLSi and have started looking around for insurance. I'm a long time/low time pilot, with very little LSA time. Avemco just told me they don't underwrite S-LSA anymore due to their loss experience (they implied the costs of composite repair were too high---I wonder if they underwrite Cirrus SR's). I have a broker pricing up with the remaining carriers. I'm interested in 2013 pricing for anyone willing to share. In particular would be interested in who your carrier is, not necessarily your broker-- so we can tally which companies are actually underwriting LSA these days. Txs in advance. Roger Lee
Try Aviation Insurance Resources. They should do a good job for you. See the second post in this thread.
Philip Welsch
I've had Chartis for the past several years - through a broker. PRW
S3flyer
I'm with AIG this year. $1300 for $95k hull and $1M liability. I had AIG some 15 years ago as well when my Continental 300hp Bellanca Super Viking had engine failure over a South Georgia swamp. Totaled the plane and I had a check 2 weeks later. Zero problems in the process.
Runtoeat
Same as Roger, Aviation Resources (broker). See #5 above.
Roger Lee
I believe AIR uses AIG.
NC Bill
PHOENIX and CHARTIS are writing coverage. I just moved to CHARTIS (use NationAir as broker) this week. Identical premium but zero deductibles with CHARTIS while PHOENIX would not match that.
S3flyer
I had a bid from Phoenix as well but $200 higher than AIG (and AIG offered zero deductible).
CT4ME
A.I.R. uses several, as they are a broker. Mine, through them, is Chartis - which is AIG.
sandpiper
I've been with Avemco for several years and just got my renewal notice. Due to Paul's post above concerning SLSA I called them to see what is happening. Apparently they will continue existing customers but no new ones. Since I have been toying with the idea of ELSA, I asked about that and they said if I did, they would drop me. I then asked about my ELSA RV-12, under construction, which they have been insuring. I now have everything except FWF so I keep it insured since my homeowners does not cover that. I wanted to know if they would drop me when it was time to fly. Answer: they do experimentals and since I built it as an ELSA they will be happy to insure it. I did not get a real good answer about why the difference. Something about with the CT as an SLSA I have to play by the rules but if I went ELSA I would be free to do as I please. But, I said, with experimental, be they E-AB or ELSA, the owner can do pretty much as they please so why will you insure my RV-12 ELSA but not my CT as an ELSA? She said it was confusing but that was the way it was. So, I know there are several CT ELSA's out there. Who insures you and for about how much? Jim Meade
Agent is Nationair, Coverage by Starr, which is changing it's backing company, and I pay @$1400 for 80k hull & liability. Renewal is coming up soon and I'll review my needs then. I have a nearly stock 07 CTSW.
paul m
Not an answer to your question John, but I wanted to share my preliminary results. I don't have a delivery date for my CT yet so don't have a signed policy, but USAIG quoted best price and interestingly was only one who would quote me a smooth liability coverage (albeit at a higher price). Chartis was second. Phoenix third. Note USAIG said I can't base at a grass strip.
