kentuckynet Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 hello, well i got my cord, plugged in my ipod and i get a strange sound that goes and comes constantly as soon as you plug the cord into the audio hole. Even if you dont hook the ipod up you get this noise as soon as you plug in..............any ideas? Unplug and all is fine or plug the cord and ipod directly into the zulu headset and all works as it should. whats wrong?? thanks
207WF Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Either a mono or a stereo plug will fit in the jack, although I think you want mono. Radio shack sells a converter plug. Using stereo I only get sound in one ear. WF
funtogo2000 Posted July 11, 2015 Report Posted July 11, 2015 Kentucky Net I just encountered the same issue in my 2008 ctsw. While on a flight, I got a steady squeal in my headset like an alternator might make when going bad. As I touched down, the squeal stopped and has never returned. Might have been a grounding issue. Nothing was plugged into the audio hole during this issue. But recently when I tried plugging in an ipod into the audio receptacle, I got the same sound as you reported. It had previously worked correctly. Same with just plugging in the cord and no Ipod. An intermittent squeal or beeping sound that lasts a couple of seconds, stops a couple of seconds, then repeats. I don't know if the two incidents are related, but I have the feeling its a capacitor somewhere that's gone bad. Haven't had time to do any exploring of the electrical system yet.
Anticept Posted July 11, 2015 Report Posted July 11, 2015 It's a grounding issue that is extremely common. You need to get into the panel and make sure there are good, solid, low impedance connections to the intercomm. Make sure it's shielded wire too. It shouldn't matter if you use a mono or stereo plug if it's not an *old* piece of circuitry, or isn't designed like crap. But, sometimes it's unavoidable. It's called balanced vs unbalanced mono jacks and you can try an adapter, or see if you can set your device to mono.
