Doug G. Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 Interesting that about half of the planes were repairable. That should make the decision to pull even easier. I wish there was a comparison of survivability of both people and planes in a good weather cruise altitude pull vs. forced off field landing. - Asking a bit much I know, but eventually the data will be there. Thanks for posting this.
FastEddieB Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 I've posted this before, but for newbies or those who passed on it before, this is a vey good, if somewhat long, presentation about CAPS saves in the Cirrus..
FastEddieB Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 And here's a promotional video: Lots of gorgeous inflight shots as well!
FastEddieB Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Amazing - and depressing. Just one day after posting the above, a Cirrus parachute pull today near Addison, TX. Trying to sort things out, but as of now he had an instrument failure in IMC and pulled. Rocket ignited but chute did not deploy. Descended below a 1,000' ceiling and made it back to Addison with the parachute trailing behind and landed. More to follow...
FastEddieB Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Photo: Allegedly the actual parachute never left the plane.
GlennM Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 I wonder if this was recently repacked. I know of life rafts being repacked by the manufacturer right before a mock air disaster drill where over 50% of them failed. The expert packer made a mistake.
FastEddieB Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 We should find out shortly. FAA, NTSB and Cirrus all have reps looking at the plane tomorrow. This plane is the third repacked chute to be pulled and the first repack to fail.
