John Vance
I've recently experienced a second EGT failure, and am interested in advice on securing the leads in a way that will help prevent a third. Should small-radius bends be avoided? Should it be doubled back and zip-tied to the rigid portion of the probe to limit motion in that area? Any other things that might help? Tom Baker
I wouldn't double it back on itself. I normally have a fairly big loop, before it gets tied to the engine mount on the left side. The right goes into the wire bundle to the Dynon. The biggest issue I see is the left lead gets abused when checking or adding oil, because of its location near the oil tank. John Vance
Thanks, Tom. Are the spade connectors for the right side buried in the wire bundle?

Anticept
You can bend the EGT. I've taken them as much as 60 degrees bend to get them out of the way with no adverse affects on a dozen so far.
John Vance
The one that failed was doubled back 180 degrees in a tight radius ( as in maybe 1/8"). I don't know if that's why it died but suspect that might be the case.
Anticept
Wait, they pushed the wire back 180, or they BENT the EGT itself 180 degrees? Here's a photo of what I do:
John Vance
It's just the flexible wire that was doubled back, not the rigid portion of the probe. Good to know you can bend that portion a little without a problem.
Anticept
The flexible portion has a stress relief (the spring). These should not be tied rigidly, there should be a small enough of a loop at the end of it.
