Matt LaVergne
I am a student getting ready for checkride. I do not see any information about calculating true airspeed in the POH. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or am I missing something? CTSW, N456WT.
Tom Baker
If you have a Dynon it can be set to display true airspeed. You can also perform the calculation on a E6B. You will have to assume that IAS and CAS are the same at cruise speed. Also while this is for the CTLS it should help, http://documents.flightdesignusa.com/AF04300006_00.pdf . coppercity
Hi Matt, True airspeed is calculated from Calibrated Airspeed and air density. A flight computer can be used for the calculation. There is also a performance supplement for the CTLS that includes a cruise performance chart which includes True airspeeds vs density altitude and power settings. This supplement is available for download on the FD website and is applicable to the CTSW as performance is similar between the models. 207WF
Here is an old rule of thumb that works pretty well. Take IAS and add 2% for each 1,000 feet of altitude. WF
