Cost of Ownership/ Insurance costs

Looking to start a "flying club" with a CTSW. Long story short, trying to ballpark some numbers.

I called AVEMCO this morning, and they stated that they don't insure flying clubs with 6 members, but they will insure an owner's policy with 5 owners. Waiting for the quote to come back after each pilot fills out their info. Rates are based off the lowest time pilot. Anyone have a current policy like this, and what are you paying?

I know that the CT has some expected maint intervals, but have no idea what those intervals truly cost. Does anyone have a spreadsheet with their expected maintenance costs or have this broken out?

Excited about a possible purchase, and more excited to get back to flying.

Flying clubs typically get put under commercial policies, though some insurers give a number of discounts depending on organization type (equity vs leased fleet), if it's a type club or a mixed club, estimated use, etc. You can expect a few thousand minimum.

A 5 person shared ownership policy is between 1000-2500 typically, and the rate is set by the person with the lowest tier of training, followed by recent experience, time in type, then by total time. Instrument ratings make quite a difference here.

100 hrs and annuals take between 10 and 16 hours with just basic scheduled maintenance of the 100 and 200 hour intervals. The gearbox service highly depends on the shop but expect around 1000 to 1500 all included, though parts have gone up so this is probably higher now. You need to find a mechanic and get their shop rate, multiply by any hour figures I give you to come up with the costs.

Your maintenance goes up significantly if you're using leaded gas.

Engine will run you around 22000 installed if you buy a new one, and if the old one is still good, you can often sell it to the experimental market for a few thousand.

5 year hose change is a pain on CTs. A real pain. Expect between 2000 and 3500 depending on the experience of the installer.

There's a general rule in aviation: expect to pay 5-10% of the value of an airplane a year in costs. Most years you will come under that figure. Then you get a big ticket item one year and completely blow through a budget, bringing the average in like with that 5-10%.
