Jim Meade
Are there special aviiaton tie wraps? Something about a metal tongue to engage the knotches? Are they worth it? I'm not impressed with white wire ties which have UV problems on my farm machinery, but maybe under the cowl that doesn't matter.
chanik
All the serious cable ties are completely steel. Many manufacturers. These can hold 150lb tension. Pricey compared to plastic, of course, but they won't vibrate loose or embrittle or care about heat. http://www.cabletiesandmore.com/stainless-steel-cable-ties.php
CT4ME
...call me Clueless... but I had no idea you could get stainless cable ties. I can think of times they'd be great. 'Not sure if I'd use them with electrical stuff...'fraid of shorts. Tim
Roger Lee
Hi Tim, I have some stainless ties. Next time you are down I'll show you. For our planes the plastic ties are fine.
Runtoeat
One thing to watch out for are cheap Chineese rip-off zip ties with substandard nylon or maybe not even nylon at all. Also, black might hold up better to UVA than white. Here's some stainless zip ties: http://cableorganizer.com/panduit/pan-steel-self-locking-cable-ties.html
Tad Olmsted
Dick, You are right on the money! Don't skimp out on 100 zip ties, they will not hold up. I pay around $12 for 100 and I have not had a problem.
