Grapevine Fly-In / campout

Bob Hall

Recommended Posts

Recreational Aviation Foundation and the Arizona Pilots Association has received permission to have a fly-in on the closed National Forest Service airstrip at Lake Roosevelt. We have put a lot of work into clearing brush off the 3800' paved strip, and receiving provisional event-only permission to use the strip on an advance notice basis.

These are great groups and there will be a lot of nice folks there, and it is open to any pilots who want to join us.

Grapevine Fly-In Camp Out at Roosevelt Lake

Saturday, February 25, 2012 9:00 AM to Sunday, February 26, 2012 4:00 PM

Saturday evening will be potluck, so please bring a dish you can share with others! Saturday’s lunch will be provided, hamburgers and hotdogs, donations accepted! All other meals are on your own. Cooking grills will be available. We’ll have a good time around the campfire, so if you play an instrument please bring it.

Activities:

You may want to bring your fishing pole and license as the lake shore is only 1400’ away. There will be numerous sightseeing opportunities and some plan to visit nearby backcountry airstrips. There will be opportunities for some volunteer work on the airstrip and grounds. If you can carry a sack of asphalt patch or rock salt, please do! We’ll need these items for runway repairs and weed control.

Caution:

Do not attempt taxiing off the runway; aircraft must be pushed into parking areas to avoid stumps. Do not make low level flights over the lake!
