Doug G.
Hi all, I have recently brought ,y Garmin 696 up to date, but now have an auto pilot issue. I set the direct to on the Garmin and engage the AP I press the menu button and it follows the GPS track for a while and then seems to lose the input, goes to" bank 0 degs." I then disengage the AP and the process starts over. The Garmin is not in a removable mount, so I had to pull the center stack out and remove the Garmin to get at the SD card slot for the updates. I've tried to check for loose connections at the Garmin, but don't know what else to look for. Thanks in advance for any input, Doug
coppercity
Doug, Did you verify the data output from the 696? My occasionally has to be reset after an update. Push the menu button twice on the unit, scroll down to system then interface. It should be set to NMEA/VHF out/Aviation In and fast baud rate. GlennM
Check the pins going to the autopilot. I think the GPS signal comes in on pin 17 or 19. Mine was loose and would wiggle out when connected resulting in an intermittent GPS signal.

Doug G.
Checked the settings on the Garmin it was set for TIS, NMEA/VHF so I changed it to leave out the TIS - didn't change anything. I'll have to check the wiring. It seems that it all goes to the SkyView EMS side.
Doug G.
I am wondering if the Dynon firmware update done at the same time might have caused issues. I have the skyview system. Doug
Patrnflyr
I had exact same problem with my 696. I took the connection off the back of 696 and slightly bent each pin so it would make a tight contact when I reinserted it. Problem solved
