Factory Tundra Option

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

Is there any difference between the factory tundra gear option and just adding the larger Matco wheels and tires later?

I.E. is there any difference to the main and/or front landing struts or structural attachment?

Hi Dick,

The Wheels for the 4.00-6 or the 6.00-6 are the same size. Just different wheel pants. The 6" wheel size on both are the same. On the older CT's with the small mains (4.00-6) the front tire was a 4.00-4. The CT's with the 6.00-6 mains had a 4.00-6 front tire. It is a different fork on the front suspension. FD would like that changed out if you change to the larger wheels for the mains.

I prefer the 6.00-6 larger tires for several reasons.

If you went from the small tires to the large the wheel pants cost around $550 each. There is a fleet approval to fly with out wheel pants.

Does this mean they stopped "beefing up" the tundra gear after 2006, or that they have been beefing up the tundra gear since 2006 or that all CTs made since then have the beefed up gear?

They did the one upgrade to the mains in 06 then went to the composite gear legs in the CTLS. It won't make any difference which gear legs you have if you drop it hard from 6' or more, they will all get damaged.

So Roger, just to clarify . . . since that one upgrade in 2006, all composite gear legs are identical, standard gear or tundra option?

Only difference being wheels (tires) and pants?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

You got it.

All gear legs are the same from the factory whether it was an SW or LS when it comes to tire size. The small tires are the same gear legs as the large tires. Even the wheels are the same for the tires. The only thing different is the tire itself and the wheel pant.
