John R
Let me start by saying I am not a pilot at this time. I'm waiting on flight school to get bird strike damaged CT flying again and will be starting my training. I read this site everyday and feel like I've already started my training because of all the great information on CTs to be gathered on this site. OK now my question. If all else fails and you have to pull the chute do you have any steering capabilities or are you at the mercy of the winds.
Jim
Winds.
FastEddieB
It would seem not. Ilan Reich thought he managed to "steer" his Cirrus under canopy. It was probably just drifting with the wind. One danger is that any forward speed imparted by the engine may interfere with the canopy remaining fully "inflated", increasing its rate of descent. Safest and most conservative action is to follow the checklist and kill the engine. IMHO, of course!
NC Bill
IIan Reich. Now there's a name from the distant past. Any word from from the COPA side on how or what he's doing these days, Eddie?
