Ed Cesnalis Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 I need new tape for my wing roots. I can't find yellow bowlus, maybe I have been using a different product, not sure? Does anyone know of a source for yellow bowlus or something close?
FlyingMonkey Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Can you dye it or paint it before putting it on?
Doug G. Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Can you dye it or paint it before putting it on? Don't think that would work. Can't dye plastic & it stretches so paint probably won't work.
Doug G. Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Looks like it only comes in white and clear. 3M polypropylene was mentioned as a possibility at Cumulous Soaring although they didn't feel it was as good an option. The 3M may come in colors.
Jim Meade Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 I didn't see any, either. This glider site has a discussion of tapes for those who may be curious. http://www.wingsandwheels.com/page28.htm
FlyingMonkey Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Clear might work if CT doesn't mind having the wing/fuselage seam visible under the tape. A thin dark seam would look better than a wide white seam.
Tom Baker Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 I don't think painting would work as it will peel right off the tape. I have used it for masking when paiting nefore, and it does leave a very nice edge for the paint.
Admin2 Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Painting the tape will not work because it stretches. 3M makes all colors including yellow and works just fine. Ace Aviation
