Airventure 2013 - depressing?

The EAA hasn't been level with us on the destruction of the UL area. There is camping space for about 15 planes. If I had flown in there on Wednesday, I would have been sent away. The Vintage aircraft people are now storing planes in front of the barn.

The neatest part was flying into the Ultralight strip and camping next to the barn. Some of the campers in the background had the same spots for 15 years or more. Pic from last year.

Then Homeland Security said you need a 10 foot fence and access road capable of supporting a Humvee (possible future concentration camp)?

And a military-plane-free Aeroshell Square.

There was a B-17 in Aeroshell Square on Tuesday. No new military, as I'm sure they are blaming sequestration. FAA building very empty - only a few people and no one from LSA branch that I saw.

I hate crowds so its a pleasure for me.

The weather while not the best for flying in is the best in years for walking around and no crowds helps when you go to a booth. I haven't waited at a booth for more the a couple minutes.

I know I'm depressed... I have gone every year for the last 5 years... New baby, busy at work (25 cities in last 90 days) and momma about ready to shoot me if I take a discretionary trip to Oshkosh this year! (oh well, see you in 2014!)

It would be great to have an CT group at OSH next year.

This year I stayed at the UW Dorms. Highly recommended! The shuttle bus service between the dorms and OSH was great. The cafeteria, that opened at 6 AM, served a pretty good breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The room was about $70 a night. Most of the rooms don't have air conditioning. That luckily was not a huge problem this year. I imagine things would feel different in a (not uncommon) heatwave.

Our EAA group stays at the dorms every year. It can get wildly hot at times but we usually have one member come up via pickup and everybody drops their window fans with him so you don't have to tote them in the plane. Works really well.

I have stayed at a great place since 2005 that has a/c a great atmospher and provides shuttle service twice in the am and twice in the pm.

Prices are the lowest in 100 miles.

Maybe we can get enough people together to have a CT to Oshkosh Arrival and Tent.

One can wish.

We should start planning now.

I'd think we could get half a dozen or maybe a dozen. To do an arrival (even an unofficial one) maybe we'd like to arrive on Saturday?
