sandpiper Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 Personally, I think that a weight increase unique to iCon is BS. Either the light sport class weight is increased for all, or iCon can build their plane as a "traditional" aircraft. But, hey, who am I. Maybe I just don't get the big picture. Maybe the iCon won't spin, but I bet it's gonna have as many accidents as any other LS. There, I feel better!
Ed Cesnalis Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Icon is using 80lbs of the exception probably because that is a weight that they can justify as being used for spin-resistance. FD has not produced a spin-resistant wing so they cannot apply for the same exemption. To think we are in line for a 250lb, grandfathered exception is simply wishful thinking.
