Mac Bowden Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Makes very interesting reading regarding tankage in the CT family…. http://tinyurl.com/2agt3dh And well worth reading what the GA community think of his airmanship…… http://www.pprune.org/private-flying/384905-light-aircraft-down-dundee-28.html
CT4ME Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Interesting reading... thanks, Mac. Bottom line: figure on 5 gallons an hour, and don't get so low that slosh becomes a factor! For long flights, I usually fill to 32+ gallons and figure no more than 5 hours of flying... plenty left for reserve and slosh factor. I remember seeing a photo of the plane in the tree... didn't I? Mac Bowden Posted August 14, 2010 Author Report Posted August 14, 2010 Over here we are going to have to put up a new placard explaning the extent of the unusable fuel in the bottom of each tank. I would find it very difficult to embark on any journey of that length (212 miles) without more than enough fuel for the trip, plus an alternate detour, plus an hour for loitering. Even a local flight with the amount of fuel he on board would have me eye balling the site tubes. If you read the reaction on the other link I posted you'll read by his own account that he was completely innocent of an error of judgement and that the engine inexplicably stopped! Not much learning there then.... hmmm Mac
