I remember a July day when I was scheduled to receive a semi truck full of building insulation. The truck spent 4 hours blocking the main road in town. The driver didn't have chains and the summer storm left 2 feet of snow. He stayed there till it melted.

The Sacramento valley had an awesome thunderstorm yesterday as the storm rolled through. Nice to know it did something besides make a lot of noise.

46°f on our porch this morning in the N GA mountains.

Brrrrrrrr!

Still, gotta love fall - glad we didn't just skip over it like Mammoth Lakes might have!

Wimps! Valdez, AK averages 400" per year. In Fairbanks I have seen it be minus 40F or colder 24/7 for 3 weeks straight, warm up and snow for a week then do it again. Sun is up for 3.5 hours barely skimming above the southern mountains. Then there is the ice fog and you can't see it at all.

But, maybe I'm the wimp. I left after 42 winters.

Valdez does get a lot of snow. I landed there once in a C-130.

Snow banks so high and close I could not exit the runway.

We off loaded our people and equipment on the runway then BACKED up the length of the runway for the subsequent take off. Too narrow to even turn around on the runway.

Those were the good old days.

John, I bet you have a lot of good stories to tell.

We're not far behind! (the larches are just starting to turn, although the valleys are still green, the best of fall colours to come.)

It beautiful to climb these hills in the cold!~~~

We all have good stories to tell, and some we probably don't want to tell!

Hi John,

That's why all the smart people live much further south. :)

Well, I did eventually move but don't know if that was smart or not. For sure you don't have to shovel rain.

I lived in Munich for 5 years. The English Garden was a famous spot, kind of like Central Park in New York. It became popular for a certain area to be frequented by nudists. This got to be well known. some people didn't like it that part of their park was appropriated by naked people. Someone asked a Munich policeman what he intended to do about all the people with no clothes. He replied, "wait for cold weather".
