Masters in action

In another thread, Austrian engineering and design mastery was lauded.

When not confused with German.

As I said, I fly with a ROTAX and trust it.

And my KTM motorcycle is Austrian as well, and I actually own 2 BMW motorcycles (German).

But no device is perfect, and I mentioned the disillusionment that can come along once the "bloom is off the rose".

I encountered this not too long ago on a BMW motorcycle site. The BMW K1600 had just been announced:

Wow! Gorgeous, nimble, 6 cylinders, ABS, electronically controlled suspension, traction control, on and on and on.

Far too complex for my pedestrian tastes, but a lot of people ordered them immediately.

There were the typical warnings about buying a new and untested product, but new and advanced sells.

And now that they're in the hands of forum members we have a new forum thread:

That's 457 posts so far, and nearly 25,000 views! http://www.i-bmw.com

Admittedly, some of the posts are of the nature of "My K1600 has had no or minimal issues". But not most - and many seem to be aggravating and recurring design issues, especially with switchgear. Some of the owners are quite disgusted and ready to give up on BMW for good.

In closing, German and Austrian engineering can be great. They surely do have "masters". Just beware "the bleeding edge".
