Tom Baker
For the new CTSW owners, or for those who may be deciding to remove the wheel pants for Winter. If you still have the Italian brakes the stand off (outside wheel pant support) is also what holds the wheel solid to the axle. The wheel will stay in place because of the brake disc, but you will do damage if the support is removed. I know of 2 airplanes now this winter that had them removed. FredG
Tom, the CTsw parts manual shows the stand off and the wheel retaining bolt as two separate parts that screw together. Isn't is possible to separate them by removing the stand off ("spacer", page 119, part # KA4020110) from the bolt (page 121, part # KA4020503) so that the stand off isn't vulnerable to damage once the wheel pant is removed? Fred, you are right, but often the stand off doesn't like to come loose. In any case on these 2 airplanes the retaining bolt was removed too. FredG
Tom, as you indicated, removing the retaining bolt seems like a really bad idea!
