FlyingMonkey
I just realized that my CT is missing the passenger warning placard. Is there a place I can buy one, or do I have to go through FD (which I assumes is expensive)? I've looked at places like Aircraft Spruce; they have placards for amateur-built and experimentals, but not the one for a Special Light Sport. Any ideas? paul m
does it really need to be a fancy placard? If you type the words on a piece of paper and tape it to Instrument Panel wouldn't that do it? (putting aside aesthetics)

I'm sure I can find a picture of the placard, copy it, and stick it to the panel. Good idea, thanks!
paul m
Its in 2.12 of the CTLS POH with all the other required placards. Not sure of your vintage though. Email Matt at FD. Maybe not as expensive as you think if you want nicer looking ones. Bet you can also create some nice home versions with a computer and an arts and crafts store. I was looking at my Operating Limitations and it says you must advise passsengers of that warning. I wonder if just pointing to the placard fulfills that? or maybe you don't even need to point it out to fulfill the requirement as long as it's there? S4Flier
AC 45-4 has the exact language and specification in section 13. The material is not specified. Also, the POH is supposed to have a description of all placards.

Roger Lee
Take a picture. Take it to a sign shop and they will make one for you. It's quick and easy.

Tom Baker
Andy, I might have one. I'll try to remember to check in the morning.

Tom Baker
Andy, I purchased a placard kit from FD a few years ago. I had some that were coming off. I don't find the passenger warning in the bag of placards. I don't think I used it, but it is not there. Sorry I got your hopes up.
FlyingMonkey
No problem Tom. What I think I'm going to try is to get some adhesive labels for my laser printer and put the image of the placard onto an adhesive label. I'll probably end up making a sheet of them, so I will hopefully have some spares that I can send out if anybody else needs one.
FlyingMonkey
I found this at wagaero.com for $2. The language is slightly different, but would this be legal? http://store.wagaero.com/product_info.php?products_id=14861
S4Flier
Don't think it's technically legal: For all classes of S-LSA, the FAA-accepted ASTM consensus standard specifies a passenger warning placard is to be displayed that states “THIS AIRCRAFT WAS MANUFACTURED IN ACCORDANCE WITH LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT AIRWORTHINESS STANDARDS AND DOES NOT CONFORM TO STANDARD CATEGORY AIRWORTHINESS REQUIREMENTS.”
Anticept
Placards can be homemade. The fuel type placards on N566FD rubbed off, so we just made up some new ones using a label maker. You just have to make sure that you have the appropriate font and size.
Doug G.
How do they hold up in weather. My labels at the fuel filters need replacement.
Philip Welsch
Aircraft Spruce p/n 09-01968, page 457 - $1.95.
Anticept
How do they hold up in weather. My labels at the fuel filters need replacement. Doing fine. Not even peeling, and it's been flown in rain, ice (unintentionally, 180'ed that one!), and sun.
FlyingMonkey
Aircraft Spruce p/n 09-01968, page 457 - $1.95. That is for an experimental light sport, the language is wrong.
Doug G.
Roger any sense of what a sign shop might charge for the fuel stickers?
Roger Lee
Are you talking about the stickers up by the filler caps? If so I made my own with a label machine. These machines can make some nice stickers any more. I shop would do it cheap and maybe on the spot.
Tip
Matt at FDUSA has all of the labels and they are very reasonably priced.
Doug G.
Tried that route and they were out, but that was a few months ago. Maybe it has changed.
FlyingMonkey
Thread resurrect! For my passenger placard, I didn't want to pay for a FD sticker, because I knew it would be overpriced. And I didn't want to make one myself, because I knew it would look kind of hacked together. So I went to plaquemaker.com and had one made of engraved plastic, white letters on a smoke gray background, 2x4 inches. I think it came out great: At $17 is was more than I would have paid for the FD sticker (maybe!), but it looks really good and is solid and will never peel. If it comes off a new strip of double-sided tape fixes it right up. If anybody else wants one, I have the order code and they keep all their artwork files, so I can point you to them.
