Rich
Has anyone used a manometer to check carb balancing? I used it on my two stroke/two carb to sinc the carbs and it worked very well. I was wondering how that might work on the 912 ULS. If you adjust the suction so that the fluid is level in the tubing, shouldn't the manometer work just as well as the gauges or the electronic method? Roger Lee
A manometer would work, but may be a little cumbersome depending on the setup. You really only need something that would react to the vacuum and do it equally to both sides to compare the readings. The actual numbers are irrelevant. Rich
Roger, For the manometer I used a yard stick with 1/8 tubing filled half way with 2 stroke oil, although I believe any oil would work. The tubing is looped on the yard stick and fastened with tie wraps. The two loose ends at the top are hooked up to the suction ports on the carbs. When the oil is level on both sides of the tubing the carbs are balanced. Total cost is about $4.00.
Anticept
I prefer gauges. When I have the carbs in sync and at correct idle, I make note of the readings (typically 15-16 inches for my engine). If problems develop (usually with the carb or mixture), it might cause those numbers to drift.
