Al Downs
I have my filter cut open. How do I remove the paper filter material to check?
Roger Lee
Take a box knife or similar and cut around the paper at the top and bottom all the way around and down to the metal center. Peel out the element. You can open it and inspect it and probably won't see anything. You can put the paper element in a small jar and put about 1" of fuel then shake it well. Dump the fuel and all through a paper towel into something. Then look at what is left in the paper towel. If there is anything it will most likely be very minute. Rogerck
What about not removing the paper element and submerging/shaking the entire filter element in a larger container of fuel and then pouring through a paper towel? Is the outside or inside of the filter the "catching" side? Roger Kuhn
Roger Lee
Hi Roger, Outside. It might work that way if your shaker isn't glass and there would be a lot more oil residue.
sandpiper
I have always used the box cutter method. Just watch out for your fingers. Don't ask how I know this.
