S4Flier Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Well, looks like the FAA is standing firm on the deadline: http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/FAA-ADS-B-2020-Deadline-Wont-Change222319-1.html
FlyingMonkey Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 It will never happen, even the commercial operators and charter companies won't all be ready in time.
FlyingMonkey Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 You will lose your AC if you don't comply is what I am hearing. The directive will take the form of a mandatory AD. That makes no sense. There will be no requirement for ADS-B in or out for any airspace except A, B, and C. They are going to ground your airplane for not having optional equipment? I don't think so.
S4Flier Posted July 10, 2014 Author Report Posted July 10, 2014 Ads-B out will be required wherever a Mode C is required today. And you'll still need the Mode C.
FlyingMonkey Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Ads-B out will be required wherever a Mode C is required today. And you'll still need the Mode C. Right...A, B, and C airspace.
FastEddieB Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Plus Bravo 30-mile veils. That would make it required for many airports around ATL, for instance. I plan on spending about zero time worrying or even thinking about it until maybe 12/1/19, giving me a month to get something squared away if and when the requirement goes into effect.
WmInce Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 . . . "I plan on spending about zero time worrying or even thinking about it until maybe 12/1/19, giving me a month to get something squared away if and when the requirement goes into effect." . . . Besides that . . . by that time, I expect the technology to be improved greatly, installation options will vastly improve and the cost of the system will come down drastically.
FlyingMonkey Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 The real discounts will come a few months after the deadline, I might wait until then. I can stay out of the busier airspace for a while to save some money.
