terjekolaas
We are experiencing flap problems with our CTSW 2005. To be on the safe side we`d like to test out the manual flap operation as described in the handbook. Is the manual flap option also possible with the 2005 edition? We`re so afraid of breaking the switch that we have not dared to force it into the 180 degrees position. It feels like we`re going to destroy it... Do you really have to use force to turn it to the correct position, or is it suppose to turn smooth all the way?
Jacques
Hi Terje Also have a 2005 SW...no manual flap on mine which is an early 2005 [ #2 ] . I'M sending you a PM
Mike Koerner
I have a 2004 which also does not have the manual flap operating position. I don't think forcing the switch is a good idea. Mike Koerner
terjekolaas
Thanks for your answers. The manual operation is obviously not an option on early CTSW`s. Jacques sent me an excellent descritption how to override the board and to trig the flaps motor manually. Will try that.
sandpiper
I am curious concerning which model years had manual flap operation. My 2007 does. I know some newer CTLS models and some older CTSW models apparently don't. Why was it a good idea on some and not others?
Jacques
I think it started in 2007. The 2006 CTSW brochure doesn't show it. The 2005 /2006 system wasn't very reliable, ( problem started on 1st flight with mine) so IMHO, a manual operation was (is) absolutely necessary .. Roger Lee
The 2006 SW had manual flap operation. It started in 06 I just don't know what month. I'm pretty sure it was in the first half.

CT4ME
I believe at least some of the Does/Doesn't issue comes from the way the switch is installed. On the back of the switch, there is a keyed "washer" that sticks in one of many labeled holes. The functionality of the switch varies somewhat depending on what hole it's lined-up with. There are several holes, and it would be very easy to put the rotary switch back in wrong, or even install it in the wrong hole to begin with. sandpiper
OK, it started in 2006 then stopped at a later date in CTLS models. Or, maybe just some later CTLS models depending on switch installation? Last winter when I visited a friend in Camp Verde, AZ, we stopped at a hangar with a CTLS, or CTLSi, in it. Belongs to Duane Jeffs, AKA DocRon. Somehow we got on the subject of manual flap operation. That plane doesn't have it. So, when did FD stop making it functional? Or is it just pot luck depending on installation? Just curious.
Doug G.
DocRon is not Duane Jeffs. DocRon lives at Camp Verde, but does not have a CTLSi
sandpiper
DocRon is not Duane Jeffs. DocRon lives at Camp Verde, but does not have a CTLSi OK, I'm confused. It was definitely Camp Verde, for sure last winter. It was either a CTLS or CTLSi. Fairly new and for sure not an SW. Am fairly certain he said he was DocRon. For some reason I thought that was Duane. Apparently not. So, what was in DocRon's hangar? And who owned it? How bad was my senior moment?

sandpiper
John, I saw you last winter in Tucson. Right. Sorry about the mix up. Some days the only reason I remember what I had for breakfast is because I have the same thing every day.

Doug G.
DocRon used to live up here. He has a CTLS. 2008 I think. I'll leave it up to him if he wants to share his name. I haven't seen him around lately.
Anticept
2008 models have manual flaps. Got two and both have it. I've got the old style control board and firewall mount, the other one has the newer style "all on one board" type. All with manual.
