Ian
Isn't the Teleegraph the U.K. equivalent to the Enquirer? No that's the Daily Mail, the Telegraph is a reputable, though right wing, broadsheet (it does have a good crossword). If you look at the article, the original source appears to be Arkansas Online. Anticept
Remember that right wing and left wing mean two different things in the US and European countries. The US right wing is considered radicals in Europe, and even our left wing is considered relatively conservative. However, this is anecdotal, I don't have any studies to back this up, just the couple dozen people that are from european countries that take flight training here with us, as well as friends who live there. gbigs
The Brits have conservatives versus liberals (they just label them differently). The UKIP and the Tories are conservatives....The Labour Party are liberals. They fight over the same issues in the same way.....abortion, socialism, the NHS bankrupt medical system, unions versus corporate interests, wars, illegal immigration (theirs is Muslims instead of Hispanics). The Labour Party controlled Britain for two decades up until the last big election....conservatives now control Britain and it is freaking out their liberals the same way the 2016 election is going to freak out US liberals. Anticept
Which will go back and forth. The pendulum swings both ways. Whoever wins the election makes the losers freak.
Ian
Burgers has it a little wrong. UKIP are a bunch of "little Englander" racists only slightly removed from the British National Party who are out & out fascists. We then have a distinction between the Liberal/Social Democrats and the more socialist left represented by an ever decreasing faction within the Labour party. While it is true that the Tories won the last election they have ended up with a wafer thin majority in parliament which may or may not last the full term - just needs a couple of MPs to pop their clogs and the resulting bye-elections to swing away from them and the landscape could change very quickly. And of course we have our referendum soon to decided whether we should stay in Europe or not - a no vote & I believe the Royal Navy will be towing us to somewhere off Iceland!
