procharger
Where do I look for the start module and what does it look like?thanks
Roger Lee
The soft start ignition modules look just like the standard ignition modules. The standard modules have a green ID label on them and the soft start is yellow. These ignition modules are the two small black boxes on top of the engine. Jacques
'Soft Start' or 'Advanced Start' modules Soft Start is the after market product that is installed ON TOP of the 2 modules https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koUsBqTQJ5I Advanced start are the NEW modules that Roger is talking about http://legacy.rotaxowner.com/si_tb_info/serviceinfo/si-912-020-r8.pdf section 74-00-
procharger
Soft start adv. start what the difference? Are yellow ones plug and play?
Jacques
The yellow ones are the factory installed modules which are part of the new Advanced start system. You can also buy them to replace the 'old style' ones. The Soft Start are AD-ON that you install on top and in serie with the top module. It change the ignition of THAT module and you start the engine with that module only . Bully Hawk SSM.doc
Roger Lee
I don't think Bully Hawk sells the soft start any more. The new Rotax soft start modules are plug and play, except for two wires that go to the starter solenoid. If you want the full benefit of soft start you would also need to replace the flywheel. It isn't worth it, but the modules alone will help.
Ed Cesnalis
I didn't replace the flywheel yet my starts are dramatically softer. It no long feels like it has a typically hard/cold start. For a softer shutdown I first go to a single mag for a moment.
procharger
Looks like Lockwood is $900 for one is that right and California Power Systems is $319 whats the deal??
Jacques
what you see at Lockwood is the genuine Rotax module http://www.lockwood.aero/c-307-ignition-modules.aspx what you see at CPS is the Bully Hawk 'ad ON' Soft Start http://www.cps-parts.com/catalog/rtxpages/15-05952.php?clickkey=134277 as Roger said, the Bully Hawk is not sold anymore as Rotax 'upgraded' the ignition ( as Advanced Start) some years ago. however, ,if you want a Bully Hawk Soft Start...I have a couple in stock 'on sale'

Jacques
Correct The Bully Hawk is installed (in serie)on the top module= ignition A you can install ONE switch to turn off the module B for starting, then On after start
procharger
Can you use two for both sides?
FlyingMonkey
I don't think the Bullyhawk would be worth it anymore. With the high (relative, seems like about 10%) failure rate of the standard ignition modules, you could end up paying for the Bullyhawk, and then having your modules fail anyway and still having to buy the Rotax soft start kit. "buy once, cry once" is my motto on this kind of stuff.
Jacques
Can you use two for both sides? SURE, in fact that's my prefered method .One switch per ignition module + a start (key or button) so, (if needed) you can crank the engine with the ignition off.
