Tom Baker
When these are installed in a different airplane the upper hole may not line up requiring re-drilling, and the wheel alignment may not be right. If they come with the lower knuckle that may take care of the alignment issue.
Jacques
but I was actually interested in a (non-tundra) nose gear fairing. a nose wheel fairing OR fork ? I have a fork ( non-toundra) for 4.00 x 4 tire
FlyingMonkey
Bill, I'm not sure if the small gear fairing will fit on your tundra fork. The tundra fork is taller. Maybe Tom can say for sure.
Ed Cesnalis
http://www.jamesaircraft.com/?page_id=47 I'd talk to a guy like this and see if he would build me what I wanted.
Tom Baker
I don't think the small fairing will fit the tundra gear. I think I have one in the shop. I can compare it to a 6" tire and see how close it would be.
Roger Lee
The smaller 4.00 x 4 front wheel fairing will not fit the 4.00 x 6 front wheel.
FlyingMonkey
The smaller 4.00 x 4 front wheel fairing will not fit the 4.00 x 6 front wheel. I think he wants to put the smaller wheels and fairings on and pick up a few knots.
Tom Baker
An un-inflated 6" tire will fit in the small wheel fairing, but I'm not sure it would if inflated. The center of the tire was past the point of where the axle would be.
Roger Lee
The forks on the 4.00-6 suspension are longer than the 4.00-4 so the bolt holes on the fairing shouldn't line up. I small wheel would fit in the longer fork, but not the other way around. Gaining a few knots is truly a misnomer. None of our gauges are that accurate. You can't fly in the same conditions with two different flights to test them and no pilot is that accurate behind the controls and the front tire size doesn't make that much of an airspeed difference. It's strictly a feel good measure. I've done a lot of flight performance testing and research with everything from tires, props, wheel pants, -12 and trim alteration. Props make the biggest difference.
