Ed Cesnalis Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Minaret Lake isn't seen on many photographs that put it in context. I shot one today, its the lake nearest the lower right hand corner. Direction of wind that day was from left to right. Route of flight was from top to bottom. Conditions were generally turbulent due to a wind event. The many aretes that tower over the lake area cause the worst lee side conditions in the whole sierra.
Runtoeat Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Ed, you really need a turbo engine, at the least for flying here. I assume you also carry full survival gear...........

Decades ago when I was young I figured I could walk out of the Sierra from any point even if I was lost. Now I'm old and carry a PLB with a 'send the helicopter' button. Flying in my friends Europa with a 914 is a dream.
