Buckaroo
Today I took my bird out for the second time and had a blast! On one landing I came in high so instead of slipping her I decided to go with 30 flaps. I added the flaps to 30 and on short final I could hear like a servo motor go on twice for a few seconds each. This was after my flaps had set. Thinking back I believe I was a little hot and out of the white arc when I added flaps. Question: If one is exceeding flap extension speed is there a governor that will stop the flap extension but when the speed drops allows the flap to go down? Maybe what I was hearing was the flaps delaying until forces were in line! Thanks all!
FredG
Yes, there is an overload protection circuit in the flap motor circuit. It will pause flap actuation temporarily. It is adjustable in case the cut-out airspeed is too much below the top of the permissible flap actuation speeds. The adjustment is a small potentiometer on the flap relay board on the firewall (cockpit side). There are instructions somewhere on this forum and possibly in the maintenance manual (don't remember where). If I remember correctly, clockwise increases the limiter current and reduces the tendency to cut-out. Check this statement before you act on my memory. FlyingMonkey
The max speed for 30° flaps is only 62 knots, it's very easy to exceed that speed if you are not thinking about it. Sounds like you tripped the nanny a bit.
