Replacing Front Wheel Bearings

For those of us who haven't serviced the front wheel bearings, here is a tip. The bearings are pressed in from each side. They cannot be pressed from one side and pushed out thru the other. There is a "stop" cut into the hub bearing pocket which stops the bearing from being pushed in too far during installation. To remove bearings, look inside the bearing hub and note the spacer which is between the bearings. Reach inside with a screwdriver and push this space out of the way enough that a flat piece of steel can be inserted and placed against the far bearing race. Put in a vise or arbor press and push the far beaing out. Reverse the hub and push the remaining bearing out.

Dick....Thanks for the reminder with regard to the nose-wheel bearings. This week we pulled the nose-strut when changing the tire as the strut was due to be greased and checked for wear. (no free polyurethane damper element kits for CT owners downunder :( )

It was found that the sealed bearings needed replacing (4.5 years old & 350 hours) and your description on how to remove them was very useful. For anyone wanting to buy new bearings prior to removing them, here are the bearing details:- You need two of SKF Explorer 6002-ZZ (France) or equivalent.

Note: I still have the Italian nose-wheel as supplied by the factory.
