Ben2k9
I know it varies by location and shop rate, but what is a ballpark cost for the following: rubber repacement Parachute repack New engine installation (excluding cost of actual engine, which I understand is about $17k) Just trying to get a sense of this to calculate a reasonable reserve set-aside amount for these eventualities

I think it is also taking into consideration of the resale value of the old engine to the experimental market. The labor and additional parts to change the engine should be a little less than the cost of a rubber replacement.
WmInce
If the airplane is a CTSW E-LSA, I wonder if the replacement engine could perhaps be the CT Super Sport i engine with cowling (912is). Would require Flight Standards District Office notification.
Roger Lee
The $13K is overhauling your engine. So you will have a 2000 hr engine with a fresh overhaul. Or sell your old engine before 2K hrs. for $6K and put that into a brand new engine since you have to spend $13K anyway.
Ben2k9
I know one CT owner who had a plane that went to 2600 hours and said it was running perfectly fine even then but found a deal on another engine too good to pass up and replaced it. Anyone know of other Rotax engines going way over TBO?
Roger Lee
I have friends with 3k - 4K hours. Just go on condition and do the maint. you're supposed to do and don't think you know more than Rotax and do something foolish and you should be good for a long time.
