Steve Schroeder
I'm getting intermittent static on my com radio. I have heard it is sometimes caused by bad grounding. Is there any harm in running an additional ground cable from the engine block to the firewall as an experiment to see if it eliminates the noise?. I have a SportCruiser LSA with a Rotax 912 ULS. bitten192
Two ground lines could allow circulating current around the ground wires. Not good practice. You should disconnect the origional ground and only have the trmporary one ground wire directly to the battery negative terminal.

bitten192
Could be the capacitor on the voltage regulator. Check for bulges or leaks on the capacitor. Capacitors are inexpensive on ebay.
