Anticept
In 2018, early in the year, I had a pretty bad back injury. Major herniation of the disc between my L4 and L5 vertebrae (lumbar area). It kept me off my feet for weeks. After an MRI and a specialist visit, it was determined it was severe. I had some movement, but I couldn't stay on my legs for long before my left leg would literally go numb from the pressure of the disc on my sciatic nerve. The doctor was saying it would be preferred to avoid surgery, but as soon as he saw the MRI images, he said there's probably no avoiding it. I was still in a unique position to be able to give it time to see if it improves at least. The pain was already becoming manageable, but I still cannot stand for long periods. The major risk involved with surgery in this area is if scarring develops, it can lead to permanent disability. As well, no matter what, I've probably got a lifelong problem now, surgery or not. Still, that combined with some other events had me questioning if I wanted to continue doing aircraft maintenance. I just wasn't happy with it anymore. I almost didn't attend the 2018 renewal, but I signed up for it last moment thinking maybe something will change. I never intended aircraft maintenance to be a day in and day out job either, but that's what it became. So I began training my replacement, and largely left the business early 2019. Still own my airplane, but nothing involved outside of that aside from consulting. I've mostly been silent around here for a while, but I know some of you were relying a lot on the information I was providing. This is to clear up what's been going on. I'm still available to answer questions, but I'm hanging up the wrench for the foreseeable future and pursuing a career in IT. I've been involved with computers since I was 6, and aviation is the only thing I've had an interest in as long as computers, but given what has happened, I've decided I need to switch careers or I'm going to have an absolutely miserable old age. Thank you all for the great times.

Anticept
As said I will still stop by from time to time. Have my focuses elsewhere right now, so visits will be occasional.
Anticept
Just remembered I had this topic here. I had ended up in a new job where aviation is part of my duties (but not my primary), and it actually pays a well enough that I was able to sort everything out and got back in the cockpit earlier this year.
