John Lancaster
My CTLSi is hangared for nine months of the year but lives outside during the summer, when I relocate. Two concerns related to water intrusion: 1. After heavy rains I've noticed that water has collected in the cavity below the rudder, around the elevator-cable mount. Not worried about freezing in the summer but I'm concerned about corrosion and perhaps other issues. Should I siphon it out before I fly? Is there any way to prevent the problem, perhaps by means of a makeshift cover? 2. Water also leaks into the cockpit. After a rainstorm I've found as much as a quarter inch of water on the hatrack and a similar amount soaking the carpet under the rudder pedals. Don't see it anywhere else and it doesn't appear to threaten avionics, etc, but I am getting tired of bailing out the cockpit after every storm. Is there anything to be done? As always, thanks in advance for any help. John
sandpiper
Bruces Custom Covers. Also make sure all of your weep holes are open.
John Lancaster
thanks Sandpiper. Should have mentioned that I do use a Bruce's cover, though it doesn't seem to keep the water out, I think because it enters through the hole under the wing near the elevator. Maybe there's a cover that would deal with this? If so I haven't found one....
