GrassStripFlyBoy
Working on fuel caps and flanges (SW). New O-rings on the caps, and looking at the flange side. Finding people have removed the sealant around the lip of flange and JB Weld / marine epoxy that back up. Also find a bit on removing the flange and using permatex on the gasket. Either seems like a fine path, the first lessens the risk of stripping heads and making a mess of fasteners, the second avoids having to do hand grinding work and potential mess up. What is the preferred path?
Madhatter
PRC or equivalent integral fuel tank sealant instead of JB weld. It will never ever leak and stays flexible
FlyingMonkey
Here's what I used...called "Chemseal" it's basically ProSeal under a different name for a lot less money. Messy, sticks to everything (wear gloves!), and takes a day or two to cure, but it's good stuff.https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/chemseal09-04612.php?clickkey=5054
GrassStripFlyBoy
That's what I was looking at, thanks guys. Working to fill up the Spruce order, weather sucks but great for pulling the lawn roller on the strip, and address some of the maintenance stuff I've been wanting to finish up. Mike Koerner
I have leakage around my tank filler flanges. Is this the recommendation? 1) Gouge out a 1/8" wide by 1/8" deep groove between the metal filler and top of the wing using a Dremel carving burr bit 2) Mask off the wing outside the groove and the filler flange 3) Fill the groove with this goop, flush to the wing top surface
GrassStripFlyBoy
I've been awaiting a bit warmer weather, but that is the plan. For step number one I plan on removing the existing sealant carefully, and not much more than that.
