chanik Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Tossed my Telescope into the back and flew up to 5300' Blue Canyon Airport in the Sierras to attend the SVAS Star Bar-BQ. It's amazing what one can fit in this little plane. Camping gear for two and this 160mm scope and mount. http://ctflier.com/index.php?/gallery/image/144-bluecanyon/ http://ctflier.com/index.php?/gallery/image/145-blue-canyon/
Jim Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 There's a coincidence. My wife and I drove up to Auburn two weekends ago to join up with the Stellarvue lecture and trip to Blue Canyon. We had a real nice time and I've been thinking about flying in to Blue Canyon ever since. Have any issues with downdrafts or crosswinds? Was the AWOS working?
chanik Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 http://ctflier.com/index.php?/gallery/image/146-bluecanyon-approach/ AWOS did work but with 3kt wind, there was nothing noticeable WRT downdrafts. It drops off quite a bit on approach so I would expect it to be squirrely with wind. Any Sat during summer closest to new moon there should be 6-12 astronomers there from SVAS During winter there is 6-12ft of snow instead.
