Ken
Hi Folks: I had a CT service center change my oil. The logbook entry says they used Aero Shell 20w50. Is this acceptable? Same place that installed the oil canister foot upside down. Ken N296CT
Garrett Gee
I would run away from that service center and never return. No, Rotax has a list of approved oils and that is definitely not on the list. There is also a checklist for the use of non approved oil types. https://legacy.rotaxowner.com/si_tb_info/serviceinfo/si-912-016-r12.pdf Check here for the OIL SPECIFICATION NOT RESPECTED (section 05-50-00) https://www.rotax-owner.com/pdf/MML_912-Series_Ed4-Rev1.pdf

Ken
Hopefully, this was a misprint. This was done at Airtime in Tulsa.
Garrett Gee
Just now, Ken said: Hopefully, this was a misprint. This was done at Airtime in Tulsa. I would think so. They of all people would know a Rotax.
GrassStripFlyBoy
It may be they simply logged the Sport+4 as a 20w50 product, it is multiviscosity and I believe 20w50 in weight. If they used W15-W50, or W100, or whatever "standard" engine oil, then yeah that's a concern. A local pal running a 912i had the bum gearbox from Rotax, and in supporting the warranty claim he had to fill out a form that required stating the weight of the oil ran. I took him a long time to obtain a direct answer through aeroshell and if I recall correctly it's 20w50.
FredG
AeroShell Sport +4 is a 10W-40 oil that meets the Japanese motorcycle oil standard (designated "JASO MA"). Madhatter
20w50 is a Phillips XC product. Someone screwed up the log entry hopefully. Just call the shop.
