Cutaway View of CHT Probe

Has anyone found a permanent fix to the problem we have with the CHT spade connectors? I continually have to remove and crimp the connector so that it has a better contact with the top of the CHT probe. It mainly happens with the LH side and I get an erratic temperature indication which often sets of the low temp alarm on the EMS.

Howdy WestCoast,

How's the weather down under?

If the spade connector is put on correctly it doesn't loosen up. If you have an older spade connector on now and have crimped it a couple of times then just cut it off and put another one on. Only crimp it on the edges until it is firm. Don't over crimp it and the more times it gets crimped the worse it becomes.

G'day Roger...Thanks for that info and I will replace the spade connector as you suggested.

Third day of spring down here so weather is starting to warm up at last.

Regards,

Dave

If you really want to fix the crimp thing forever, then you need to solder. Use a longer 1/2" piece of stripped wire poke all the way through the crimp hole on the connector, crimp and then solder the tail near the spade end with some rosin core flux 60/40 solder. An Iroda butane iron like a solderpro 50 is very good for this as it gets hot but has controllable output.
