Jim Meade
What does the CTSW use for a counterpoise? If I add a nav radio to the comm radio (switch to SL30, for example) will I need another counterpoise for the additional antenna or can I use the existing one? chanik
You won't need a new ground-plane plate or antenna because the nav band is so close to the com band that the antenna has vitually the same matching at those frequencies
Jim Meade
What does the CTSW use for a counterposie? Where is it located, what material is it made of and how does one connect to it? How about if I decide to add ADF? Will the counterpoise still work for that? chanik
It would either be a wire cage or plate embedded in the carbon, I don't know. Even the carbon does a decent job as a groundplane since it is reasonably conductive. The BNC connector outher shell will connect to it, ideally through an inductor balun for RF matching. ADF is a much lower frequency, AM band, so needs a totally different antenna. Why would you add one of those ancient things, though?
Jim Meade
I saw the counterpoise today. It is about 9X12 or so (from memory) and fastened to the base of the antenna. Looks like I'll have to duplicate it for a nav antenna to get it in the right place, but shouldn't be too hard. For a lower frequency antenna, I might need to think about it.
