dasflughusen
My instructor managed to blown a tire When he apply wheel brake after landing, he apply the brake very aggressively, and the wheel is not in a good condition. Then we are stuck at the side of the runway,
EricB
And that's my other point - be easy with the brakes, especially at higher speeds just after touchdown. I learned this the hard way and started this tire discussion.
207WF
Have had 4-5 flats in 1900 hours on my CTSW with the smaller tires. Now I carry a spare tire and tube under the pax seat with all the tools to change a tire. Going to 8 plys and trying hard not to use the brakes seems to have helped. FlyingMonkey
Question: Does anybody have any tire suggestions for the 4.00x6 (non-tundra) tires other than the Aeroclassics? Those tires are decent, but I have noticed they wear faster than they used to (change of rubber compound I think), and yet their price has about doubled. Just wondering if there are good alternatives.
Tom Baker
My biggest complaint about the 4.00x6 6 ply Aeroclassic tires is the belt separation issue. I just replaced all three tires on a customer airplane because of knots where the belts are separating.

That and the fact they are harder to balance without excessive weight are my only serious complaints.
EricB
One other point. Does anyone have a jack or method to raise the blown tire side for replacement. 2 strong men under the wing has been my only recourse. I'm not strong enough by myself so I'd like a viable one-man way to get this done. I've measured and the distance from bottom of the strut to ground with the tire deflated is just over 2 inches - way to small for any jack I can find. This has been a great thread - thanks to everyone.

Tom Baker
For the CTLS I have a 6" 3/8" drive extension that I have shimmed with aluminum tape that I stick in the hole on the back side of the gear leg opposite the axle. Then I use a small floor jack.
cdarza
I’m gonna remove the tires tomorrow to check on this but it’s looking very sketchy. (Crack on the stem) Posting so that y’all can check your tires too IMG_0538.mov
